Consumer Health Data Privacy Policy

This policy covers health and fitness data handled by Tandem. It is written to meet Washington’s My Health My Data Act, Nevada’s and Connecticut’s consumer health data laws, GDPR Article 9 (special category data) and India’s DPDP Act. It sits alongside our Privacy Policy.

1. What health data Tandem handles

Only if you turn on Health sync, Tandem reads from your watch and writes to your phone’s health store (Apple Health or Health Connect), or the other way round:

  • Activity: steps, distance, active energy, exercise minutes, activity rings
  • Heart: heart rate, resting heart rate, heart-rate variability, ECG recordings made by the watch’s own ECG app
  • Sleep: sleep duration and stages
  • Workouts: type, duration, heart-rate zones, routes
  • Other readings: blood oxygen, VO2 max, weight, and glucose readings written by your glucose-monitor app

2. Where it goes

  • Health data moves directly between your watch and your phone, over Bluetooth or your local network.
  • When your devices are apart, health updates may pass through our relay only in end-to-end encrypted form. We cannot read it and delete it within 24 hours.
  • We never store readable health data on our servers, never sell it, never share it with advertisers or data brokers, and never use it for analytics or to train AI models.
  • We ask for your consent to collect health data before Health sync starts, separately for each data type.
  • We do not share health data with any third party. If that ever changes, we will ask for a separate consent first.
  • You can withdraw consent at any time in the app (Health › What syncs) or in your phone’s health settings. Withdrawing is as easy as giving consent.

4. Your rights

You can confirm whether we hold your health data, access it, delete it, and withdraw consent. Because health data stays on your devices, deleting the Tandem app and its health permissions removes it from Tandem; data already written to Apple Health or Health Connect is controlled by those apps. Email [PRIVACY EMAIL] for help. We respond within 45 days (sooner where your law requires) and you can appeal our decision.

5. Not a medical device

Tandem shows and syncs wellness information. It does not diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease, and it is not a substitute for a medical device or professional advice. ECG recordings are made by your watch maker’s ECG app; glucose values come from your glucose-monitor app. Always use those apps and your healthcare professional for medical decisions.

6. Location and geofencing

Tandem does not set up geofences around healthcare facilities and does not use location to infer health conditions.
